Catechists

Together with parish leadership, the Catechists serve as co-workers in the Ministry of the Word. A Catechist is a teacher, a fellow Christian who gives witness to the faith of the Church by instructing the members of our parish community. The catechist works in conjunction with Child Ministry, Youth Ministry and Adult Ministry in implementing the designated catechetical program. The Diocese of Tucson, the Jordan Ministry Team and Most Holy Trinity offer certified training opportunities almost year round for individuals seeking to further their faith development, sharpen their skills, and become more confident in their Ministry. Generally, this position requires a commitment for the current school year from September through April, with breaks for Christmas and Easter. We always need more and more trained and untrained Catechists. Applications for this ministry are accepted year round.

Co-Catechists

A Co-catechist is expected to commit for the school year. They attend classes every week and take turns with their fellow Co-Catechist in the classroom on the preparation of weekly lessons.

Teacher Aides

Teacher aides share in the Ministry of the Word with the catechists. A year long commitment is expected. Aides are always needed.

Nursery

The nursery is open during the 9:00 am & 11:00 am Sundays Masses year round. It is staffed by a coordinator and volunteer helpers. It is also used by various parish groups during parish functions.

Children's Liturgy of the Word

Offered year round during the 9:00 am & 11:00 am Sunday Masses. Children
(ages 4 – 11)are dismissed during the entrance procession and return for the gift procession. At this time the children are invited to stand around the altar with the celebrant. During the Dismissal time, a Catechist, assisted by two aides share the weekly readings at a child’s level. Because we do this weekly, we are always in need of more helpers and Catechists for this rewarding ministry.

Grades 1-6

Sessions are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Catechists, aides, session coordinators, and office help are always needed.

First Communion

Those children who are being prepared to receive the Eucharist must attend Religious Education classes for two years before receiving the Sacrament. In addition, separate First Communion Preparation is held for both parent and child. Catechists are required to have experience or have certification in Sacramental Preparation. They also must be available weekly through the school year, share in the First Communion Retreats, the First Communion Mass rehearsal and the First Communion Mass itself.

First Reconciliation

Children will be prepared for and participate in a Reconciliation Service prior to making their first communion. Parents attend adult classes and share materials in a Home Study process with their children. The Catechists assist the children and parents by reviewing the materials turned in weekly in class. Catechists and Aides are expected to attend the Sacrament Prep Parent Orientation, to facilitate the First Reconciliation Retreat held during class time, and assist on the Sacrament day.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School is offered for all children, ages 4 through 10 every summer, usually toward the end of June or early July. Older aged students are encouraged to assist as helpers with games, crews, dramatization etc. High School (Juniors and Seniors) may assist as Leaders and Department Leaders. Commitment is VBS Week, and any planning meetings prior to VBS Week, starting as early as February.
