Ethnic studies Forum | Wednesday, June 1 | 6-8 pm| Parish Hall
Confused about the Ethnic Studies program? Want to understand what it is, what it does, and the impact it has on students?
You've read about the protests, you've seen the video footage, you're aware about the controversy surrounding TUSD and the state of Arizona regarding the Ethnic Studies program. Augustine Romero, Phd., parishioner and "architect" of the Ethnic Studies program, and a panel of experts will be at MHT to discuss the program with factual information about its accomplishments.
A 15 minute version of the film, Precious Knowledge, which premiered at the Fox Theater, will also be part of the presentation. Don't miss this opportunity to go beyond the sound-bites!
This forum is sponsored by: Most Holy Trinity parish; The Mexican American Studies Community Advisory Board; UNIDOS; and the Southern Arizona League of United Latin American Citizens.

Bishops' document on the importance of ethnic diversity in parishes
In 2000 the US Bishops conference published a document entitled, "Welcoming the Stranger Among Us: Unity in Diversity." Below is an excerpt from the introduction to this document as well as recommendations for pastors and parish communities. It is based on the recommendations of the document that we have chosen to host the Ethnic Studies Forum.
"The presence of so many people of so many different cultures and religions in so many different parts of the United States has challenged us as a Church to a profound conversion so that we can become truly a sacrament of unity. We reject the anti-immigrant stance that has become popular in different parts of our country, and the nativism, ethnocentricity, and racism that continue to reassert themselves in our communities. We are challenged to get beyond ethnic communities living side by side within our own parishes without any connection with each other. We are challenged to become an evangelizing Church open to interreligious dialogue and willing to proclaim the Gospel to those who wish to hear it. The new immigrants call most of us back to our ancestral heritage as descendants of immigrants and to our baptismal heritage as members of the body of Christ."For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we are all given to drink of one Spirit" (1 Cor 12:13)."
