Bible Dictionary? Commentaries? Bible Atlas? NAB? NRSV? NIV? King James Version?
Come and learn methods and tools for studying the scriptures. We will critically examine texts from various books of the Hebrew scriptures and the New Testament as a way of acquiring skills that can help us more deeply appreciate the richness of our sacred texts. The goal is not to cover a vast amount of scripture texts, but rather, to go in-depth into a few stories and passages from the bible. Contemporary social theories are also used to further understand the richness of these texts.
Bring a bible. Any translation.
If you have any questions, please contact Leo Guardado (leo@mhtparish.org) in the parish office.
ALL ARE WELCOME!

UPCOMING EXEGESIS: THE STORY OF THE MAN BORN BLIND
Begins September 1, 2011 | Guadalupe Hall
John 9:1-41 will be focus of the next exegesis class. Classes will begin on September 1, 2011 and will continue until we have "exhausted" the story. Once we have a solid grasp of the characters, the tone, the structure, the history, and a few other foundational elements of the story, we will use a socio-cultural lens/theory of inclusion-vs-exclusion to further unearth the nuances of this rich scripture passage. This whole process will take about 3 months!
You are welcome to join us at any time, although to harvest the richness of the exegetical process, it is best to be present from the beginning.
Classes will begin on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 2011.
Free of charge.
If you have any questions, contact Leo Guardado or call the parish office (520) 884.9021.

Past Exegesis classes: THE STORY OF THE WOMAN AT THE WELL
John 4:1-42 was the focus of the exegesis class from February to mid-May 2011. After intense study of every verse in this story, we spent a few weeks understanding the story through the lens of feminist critique using Sr. Sandra Schneiders' book, Written that you May Believe: Encountering Jesus in the Fourth Gospel.
