TAIZE at MHT
"Some moments of peace in a hectic world"
Taize prayer is a two-fold expression of deep, quiet adoration of God and the integral affirmation of world wide solidarity as one human family.
Music is at the core of Taize prayer. Much of the prayer consists of praying by singing repetitive yet profoundly beautiful, lyrical refrains using simple phrases, usually lines from Psalms or other pieces of Scripture.
Taize originates from the a small village in Burgundy, France. In 1940, Brother Roger, a protestant, started an ecumenical monastic community. Today the community is made up of over 100 brothers from many nations representing Protestant and Catholic branches of Christianity. Br. Roger remained the leader of the community until his death in 2005. Life in the community focuses on prayer and Christian meditation.
